We passed our home fire inspection! Yippee!

  1. Can you tell me about the fire inspection? I'm not sure if what they look for is different for adoptive families than it is for childcare, but I'm in the process of being licensed as a Type B provider, and I used to do the health inspections so I know what to expect from that, but not really the fire. I know I need smoke detectors, a CO detector (more?) and a fire extinguisher (more?) but beyond that, not much. Well, and escape routes, I've had those planned out for six years out of just-in-case planning for foster licensing.

By the way, I would love to help your family with anything I can. I'm not able financially to give right now - hopefully that will change soon - because I lost my job in November and I'm trying to sort things out so I can, you know, continue to eat. But, as meager as it may be, I'm collecting pennies in a jar so that I'll be able to give, even just a little bit, after a little while. And since I'm semi-local and have family in the area, if you have anything physically that needs done (events, cleaning, whatever, hey, I'm flexible) let me know and I'll come up. Our family is always begging us to come up anyways. Since I can't adopt just yet, I want to do all I can to help in the meantime.

Thinking of you and your girl.

  2. Hi Katie!

First let me say, you are an amazing person. God is glorified through you! I'm truly blessed by having you as part of our journey.

Now on to the fire inspection...It sounds like you have a good idea as to what you need. I personally would recommend a fire extinguisher on every level. If children will be on a top floor, a fire escape ladder will probably be needed. Here is a link to the Ohio form that was used in our fire inspection:

I hope that info helps you! If you need more, let me know.

P.S. I have a friend who wants to hold a fundraiser for us. Maybe you would like to help in some way? She's thinking along the lines of a talent show. That sounds fun! It would great to meet you and I hope to some day be a part of your adoption journey.
